Smooth Muay Thai - MMA hybrid sparring class
Smooth Muay Thai – MMA Hybrid Sparring Class
Class time:
Tuesdays & Thursdays – 6:45 pm
Who this class is for
This is an intermediate/advanced sparring session for experienced strikers and MMA athletes.
It is not a beginner class.
You should:
- Have at least 6–12 months of consistent Muay Thai, kickboxing or MMA training
- Be comfortable with light–moderate technical sparring
- Understand basic defence, footwork, and clinch positions
- Be willing to spar under control and follow coaching instructions at all times
New students must be cleared by Coach Stephen or a Smooth Jiu Jitsu instructor before joining this class.
What we work on
Each session blends Muay Thai striking with MMA-specific scenarios, including:
- Technical stand-up sparring (boxing + kicks + knees)
- Cage/wall style pressure and escape drills
- Clinch entries, off-balancing and counter striking
- Takedown set-ups from strikes and defending shots
- Situational rounds (southpaw only, boxing only, kicks only, wall only, etc.)
- Conditioning rounds designed for fight fitness
Contact is controlled but realistic – the goal is to build skill, timing and conditioning, not to belt each other.
Required gear
To join this class you must bring:
- 16oz boxing gloves
- Mouthguard
- Shin guards
- Groin guard (and chest guard for females if preferred)
- Hand wraps
- MMA gloves (optional but recommended for specific drills)
No gear = no sparring.
Expectations & culture
- Check your ego at the door – technical, respectful rounds only
- Listen to coaches and follow all safety rules
- Help your training partners get better – we’re building fighters, not highlight reels
- If you’re unsure whether you’re ready, chat with Coach Stephen before jumping in
If you’ve got a solid base and want a hard, smart session that feels like a real fight camp, this is the one.
